FAQs
Q
A
Do I need to know how to play a musical instrument to be able to engage in music therapy?
No, you do not need to know how to play an instrument to be able to participate in a music therapy session. Music Therapy does not require any knowledge or previous musical experience. You will be guided through the entire therapeutic process and anything you are not comfortable engaging with can be adapted to suit your specific needs and requirements.
Q
A
I don't sing, will I need to sing during sessions?
That is completely ok. You are not required to use your voice during sessions. In fact, anything you are not comfortable with engaging with can be adapted to suit your specific needs and requirements.
Q
Can I participate in music therapy if I don't have a specific diagnosis?
A
Yes, absolutely! Music Therapy is not limited to individuals with a specific diagnosis. It can benefit anyone who might be seeking support, emotional expression, stress reduction, personal growth or improved mental health and well-being.
Q
Is participating in music therapy similar to a music lesson? Will you be teaching me how to play an instrument?
A
The purpose of music therapy is not to learn how to play an instrument and my job as an RMT is not to teach. That being said, it is not unlikely that you might learn something new, discover a new passion or hobby, or learn how to play an instrument whilst engaging in music therapy sessions. This just generally won't be our primary focus.
